Maximum Overdrive
Now i know it's not the best movie ever made, not even that good of one, but when your a kid Maximum Overdrive is pretty cool, soda machine killer, green goblin truck, evil arcade machines, all the stuff kids love. I also know it's based off a stephen king short story "Trucks", but what i don't know or better, don't understand is why anyone would want to remake this movie. The scenio...
Get home after little sleep and an actualy busy day at work, sit down with some fud infront of the tv, watching the daily show. Commercial time, start flipping around, stop at the scifi channel (which used to be a much loved station then they canceled Farscape..) and I see the movie trucks. I stare for while confused, watching what looks like a tremors the series grade version of maximum overdrive...i check the digital cable guide and yep it's a 1997 (maybe '96) remake, and to quote lewis black "i was confused". Who approves this? They can't make a "Dragonbone Chair" movie, but Maximum Overdrive gets a remake?! WTF
What minor movie exec. is pitched the idea,
"Remember that movie from the '80s where all the machines go apeshit crazy and kill people?"
"Yeah"
"Lets do that again."
"Ok, need to call it something diffent though"
"Already taken care of, it's based on a shortstory called 'Trucks' oh and we can save on costs if we shoot it in my back yard and sell it to the scifi channel"
"Well son i think we have a new vp of productions"
For some reason this is how i'm conviced movies are made, some jerkoff from the mail room pitching ideas to some strung out drama school reject whose one more tv movie away from throwing in the towel and making skinamax movies.
I mean common, "the fly", "godzilla", sometimes it's better or worse than the orignal, that's debatable, but usualy most movie remakes are of movies worth remaking...but fucking trucks!?
Ok, ok, if there going to do crap like this i want to at least see movies that are true classic B movies, "It conquered the world" or "Creature from the Black lagoon" like the way the mummy was remade, or maybe god forbid "the incredible shrinking man" a sad scifi movie with no happy ending.
Aright this has spiraled way past it's initial intention. Done
Current State: Digressing
