My experiences with matrix online
or a warning on SOE's forms and pratices
Forum post (day to day updates on issue)
- Timeline -
- 5/5 - Download MXO trial from Fileplanet
- 5/6 - Install and play game, cancel (4:30am)
- 5/7 - Get charged for one month of service
- 5/15 - Notice charge, submit ticket to SOE support
- 5/16 - Try and resolve issue over live chat
- 5/16 - Submit another ticket with more info from EULA and TOS
- 5/16 - Email Sr Acct Rep
- 5/17 - Continue to update open ticket and email to Acct rep as I and other find more and more errors on SOE end
- 5/18 - Get another canned repsonse (second ticket)
- 5/19 - Submit complaint to BBB
- 5/19 - Minutes later (though obviously not because of complaint) get email from Sr Acct rep that they will refund my money
So finaly after tickets, chats and emails SOE finaly told me they would credit my funds back, we'll have to wait and see if I get them but with luck what won't be an issue. Still disheartening that all this had to be done because they would rather have shifty forms to try and squeeze some cash out of unsuspecting customers just doesn't seem right. Also a forum goer found how you have to avoid the trial to full account swich, you get to a point in the sign up form that says...
"The key is the phrase You are currently on a trial account.
This means that You have already been granted access to the game at this point!
What you have to do at this point to avoid getting charged is just close that window without entering any billing information. Anyone who continues and enters the requested information will get charged the full monthly subscription price.
The patcher is right behind it and you can log in with your newly created account.
I can see that this is really going to piss quite a few people off until they get it fixed (assuming it is a mistake.)"
The sign up form for matrix online, which is kind of a jumbled mess (parts still link to WB but don't work or don't correctly link back to SOE), never mentions any of this, nor does the offer on fileplanet. The really annoying thing now is that they told me to eat it since I tried to cancel after I was billed which is covered in their TOS (TOS under part 10. Termination) but now after some double checking I see I wasn't billed until after I canceled
